No way could I be expected to resist this. From
silviakundera.
Best story I think I've written: Broadway Hotel, no question. It was like being in a trance, writing that story; I still don't know where half of it came from.
Favorite story of mine: Dunno, maybe Adorned? It's the only one of my stories that remained sexy to me after I'd written it; usually my sex scenes go dead for me in the process of writing them down.
Most underrated story of mine: Loving North. I got, like, total radio silence on that one, but it still feels True to me in some significant way.
Most overrated story of mine: Probably Tender. It was the first story I ever wrote with a plot, so of course I was passionately devoted to it, but aside from that the main thing about it is the dictionary gimmick.

Date: 11/25/02 08:33 pm (UTC)I go back to Broadway Hotel less than I do the other stories, but that's only because it hurts up until the end. I have to be in a mood to read it. But I do agree that it is a wonderful story.

Date: 11/25/02 09:12 pm (UTC)i love Adorned; i think it's my favorite on the roster (although i do have a particular weakness for Tilt, but that's a whole other thing). i've told you how the first time i read Loving North, i didn't really get it, but the second time, the words were much more patient with me, and it was freakin' awesome -- i expect the reason you haven't heard much about it is because it's frankly intimidating. :-) and Broadway Hotel ... it's good, it's very very excellent, but like mei said, it's not a comfortable read.

Date: 11/27/02 08:39 pm (UTC)Not quite -- I wrote a couple of the more depressing sections first, and then stopped writing, so I had it defined in my head as "that depressing story." But I think if I'd conceived it as a story with a sad ending, I probably wouldn't have finished it. That's the kind of fuzzy bunny I am.

Hurt to write, too! I wrote the "Fort Good Hope to Norman Wells" section first, and the crosswalk section second, and truly right up until the last day I was not sure I was going to be able to put a bridge between them. I just could not get Ray to make that damned phone call.
Thanks for validating me on "Loving North," though.
