December Daily: dwarvish things
Dec. 18th, 2019 08:01 pmHm. Tolkein's dwarves were known for being warlike and courageous, skillful with their hands, and patient. So if by things you mean traits, I'm pretty much the opposite of a dwarf.
I own, however, quite a lot of earrings bought from Etsy, a kilt pin that looks like it was hand-hammered, and lots of pottery bowls and vessels, mostly very small; a lot of them wouldn't look out of place in a scene of a dinner among the dwarves.
My most recently purchased piece of pottery (which I bought last year at Wiscon) is one of those in-between colors I love the most, a sort of cool greenish gray. It's a bowl about the size of a cupped hand, except deeper, and the inside is done in a different glaze, coppery. Around the bottom part of the outside of the bowl -- the part where it's flaring out, but not where it's flaring back in -- it has a texture on it, as if it had been rolled over something bumpy. Maybe that's sort of dwarvish? Today I ate cashew nuts out of it.
