I've discovered a new place in town where a person can hang out and write all day long and not get thrown out or get a sinus headache from the smoke, bringing my grand total of available venues to five.

In the morning I do a complex calculation of what would be the best place to go, involving ten or twelve variables -- all the chairs at Barnes & Noble are in the window now, so I don't go there unless it's cloudy because on sunny days the heat and glare are awful ... one of the libraries has pay parking with a two-hour limit and the other doesn't open until 10:30 ... if it's the day of my weekly lunch with the Tech Goddess, she'll want to get Mocha Blasts, so I don't want to go someplace where I feel obligated to buy a mocha as my fee for occupying a chair all day long, because that's just too much caffeine for one day ...

It's like one of those story problems where Albert lives above Betty, and Charlie and Dan both live on the fourth floor, and Edwina doesn't live on the mezzanine.

In other news: Off-brand butterscotch candies from the dollar store? A false economy. Because GACK SPTTT that's foul.

And: Didn't Dove Bars used to be bigger than this?

You are so lucky.

I was just thinking *last night* that I need places like that. I'm going broke trying to eke out a plate of fried mushrooms and a cup of tea. And I can never sit long enough. I just get to the point where I'm not crossing out every other word and thinking I lost the ability to produce a cogent sentence, and the waitress is standing there with the bill in her airbrushed talons.

My condolences! I actually thought my town was pretty pathetic when it came to Places Friendly to Nonsmoking Idlers With Laptops.Even a couple of the coffee bars in town will give you the glare if you stick around for more than an hour. So I'm sorry to hear there are other places that are even worse.

If you want to get really jealous, ask [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn to tell you about her library.

Okay, this is an extra old post, but I just had to say: I thought Dove Bars used to be bigger too. They are tiny nowadays. Tiny! I can eat it in four bites.

Yes! I mean, I remember when I used to get a Dove Bar and a dishtowel, because inevitably by the time I'd finished eating I'd have dribbled on myself. And alas, I can't say that with the passage of time I've been getting any neater.
