Seeking recs

I got a nifty challenge in email this week: someone read my old notes on How To Write a Sex Scene and asked for more examples of what I mean when I say a sex scene has one zing and shouldn't have more than one.

So I'm looking for a story that has multiple sex scenes and does a good job of having each one do something a little bit different. If it's a newer story, of course it wouldn't be a hardship to read it, but really I'd love it if it were one of the old fandom classics that I would already be familiar with.

Anybody have suggestions?

This is older but doesn't qualify as a fandom classic, alas. I'm still immensely fond of it. A Mating Moon by unpossible, Stiles/Derek, 37353 words, SO much sex.

In it, John and the team get stuck in a parallel universe, a BDSM verse, one where other!John is Richard Woolsey's sub. In his usual throw-himself-on-the-grenade-to-save-his-teammates way, John ends up having kinky sex with Woolsey, largely through a (probably unconsciously driven on John's part) misunderstanding. What I love about this story is how through every successive "date" with Woolsey, John moves from angry nihilism about having to do this, to being scared by how much he likes it, until by the end of the encounters he and Woolsey love each other and John doesn't really want to return to his own universe. So each sex scene takes John to a different place, emotionally, not that he's all that aware of it, especially at first, being John! This fic also totally sold me on the pairing, with John as Woolsey's sub. And there's even a hopeful ending.

I'm afraid I don't have any recs, but man, those are some good notes you wrote. I think I'd gradually intuited a lot of the same points you mention just through practice and observation, but I don't know if I would have been able to articulate them so well.

I don't flatter myself that anything of mine is any type of "classic," but I'm fairly proud of how every sex scene does different work - in my Harry Potter stuff, e.g. (https://archiveofourown.org/series/485; I happen to think the Remus/Bill "The Deep Dust of Years" is the best of those examples, but I do think it's true of the earlier/shorter/more-popular-pairinged ones as well.)

Mmmm, nice one. I hadn’t fully remembered this universe. I had totally put Miranda McKinnon in the canon — I had to do a search to be sure she was yours.

Do you ever imagine all our OCs just ... getting on with their lives out there? (Or their deaths, as the case may be?)

I'd recommend reading anything from www.keiramarcos.com. She writes ima lot of Fandoms and she writes sex really well. It's always hot and on point. Check ehr site out.

I know the Chinese names are difficult at first - all those Ys and Zs - but at least it's not an historical Chinese drama where one has to keep track of huge family trees. ;)

The Guardian fandom is totally worth the fall. *g* It's very active, and still there are new people coming in. There really is something special about it.

Yeah, it’s hard to keep track of names in another language, but it’s also a familiar stage when you come into a fandom via the fic rather than the canon. I can remember having trouble recalling which one was Fraser and which one was Ray.
