Mar. 14th, 2021 11:35 amI got a call on Friday from my GP's office. "If you can be at the vacant department store at 2:45, we can give you the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Otherwise we're not sure when it might be available again."
I was puzzled. I'm 56 and generally healthy, I don't work in the healthcare field, I work from home and can keep my human contacts to a minimum. But of course I said yes; they know their algorithm better than I do.
Before I could go, I had to fill out an online pre-registration, and there I saw what I think is the answer to the mystery. Y'all remember two years ago when I went to the ER because I couldn't breathe? And people kept asking me how my chest pains were and I kept saying, "I have never had any chest pains?"
Yep. My online chart said, "September 2019: chest pains."
Well, whatever. I couldn't think of anything less disruptive than just to go ahead and go, so I sat in the vacant women's department under the Maidenform sign and got my first shot.
The thought of coming out of quarantine makes me weirdly anxious. The first ten months of isolation were really restful; I missed specific people, but I didn't get lonely until January.
Whenever human contact becomes possible again, I'm going to have to put effort into getting my solitude needs met. But first I will have a year's worth of hugs to make up.

(and I got my shot last Saturday, as a leftover, but here over 50s are eligible starting next week.)

But I never had any pain, so it sounds like something different with you. You've probably already thought of strained muscles, rib damage (even from something as simple as coughing)?
I guess you COULD check your blood pressure just in case?

Date: 3/14/21 05:10 pm (UTC)Funnily enough my blood pressure measured at the doctor's office was (typical for me) 100/60, but at the ER it was in the 135-155/80-90 range, which - I told them a few times that their (automatic, every half hour) machine must have been off, because no way (even with 'white coat hypertension', I mean, I was just as nervous at the doc's office), but they still told me to talk to my doctor about blood pressure and heart attack risks (despite no EKG or blood testing showing anything heart-attacky).

Even besides Shopko's collapse, there are lots of empty department stores in dusty malls around us.
