Went bra shopping for the first time in, mm, maybe six years? And in the intervening time, it appears that underwires have become vastly less fashionable and now everybody's all about the wirefree? If I'm going to wear an entirely new *type* of bra, I'm going to have to actually try them on, oh woe and bitter wormwoods. And my old type (unlined, cotton) are available, but only in black, white, and "flesh."

My Bra Style Is Discontinued is a more precise age description than Late Middle Age.

I discovered an underwire bra with gentle padding all over—more comfortable than anything I’d ever worn. Got 5 of them at Kohl’s. I’m hoping comfy underwires will ba back in fashion the week mine all fail.

Thanks for the tip! I've tried a lot of wire-free bras the last few years, and I'm missing my old comfy style, as well.

I've developed a theory that on average we're all getting fatter, and so companies would rather sell a sports-bra-type fit than spend the money on precise engineering at larger sizes.

If you know your bra size, may I suggest you check out HerRoom? They have everything and as someone with large boobs who prefers certain styles of bras, my general habit is to get fitted at Nordstrom's (they do it properly) and then buy online from that site or elsewhere.

I hate fitting rooms, tendinitis makes it hard for me to stand up for a long time, and, damn it, I want the spot between the cups to lie flat on my breastbone and not float a couple of inches further out!

Trying to find an underwire or any bra that fits is a nightmare. It's like a conspiracy.

Lol at the final paragraph! I have to admit that I haven't worn underwires since, er... 1996. But back then as a big person with large assets I had to source them from a small alternative company and now they're everywhere!

I, too, have large assets which make it difficult to find a bra with a big enough cup size. I've tried wearing bras without underwires and they're always very uncomfortable because of the pull on the shoulders.

I'm now buying my old style in my new size on eBay, but there's a limit to how long that will work.
