[livejournal.com profile] helvirago asked for music recs, and based on a couple of things she likes, I thought she'd like this stuff as well. And so might some of the rest of you. They're folk, Celtic, and roots music, in various combinations.

Be warned that the last three of these are m4a files. (Some of the others may be, as well.)

Altan: Dulaman

The Chieftains with Gillian Welch: Katie Dear

The Cheiftains with Nickel Creek: The Raggle Taggle Gypsy

The Chieftains with Tim O'Brien: Shady Grove

Tim Hart and Maddy Prior: My Son John

Tim Hart and Maddy Prior: Cannily, Cannily

Tim O'Brien: Fair Margaret and Sweet William

Tim O'Brien: Hard Times

Maybe you were the one who recced them to me in the first place, way back when I couldn't find any Celtic music that wasn't all I-dreamt-I-wandered-in-a-misty-glade rather than stuff you could dance to.

Thank you!

In my next lifetime, I want Maddy Prior's voice.

Oh, that would be lovely. Tim Hart's voice isn't much to listen to, but somehow they work together.

I don't know why I've got this strange reluctance to show up in chat -- kidlet's on vacation from school, and I'm still working part-time, and possibly my human-contact quota is filled before I hit the computer at night -- but I'll be up tonight.

I probably have about five versions of various ran-away-with-gypsies song. This is a great, danceable version, though.

Oh, new-to-me Tim O'Brien! Thanks muchly. He's actually a (near) Denver native. Well, he was born in West Virginia, but he lived and played here for years, and his sister (who he recorded many albums with; their voices suit each other's wonderfully) still lives here.

I have a lot of his older stuff. I really like his cover CD of Dylan tunes - Red on Blonde.

Wasn't it you who sent me several of his songs? "Lay Down Your Weary Tune" was one of them. At that point I'd only heard one song of his, another Chieftains collab, but after I downloaded yours, I went nuts on eBay buying everything of his that I could find. He's terrific.
