It's cold. This just doesn't happen in Middle Americaville in late June. This morning the woman on the radio said, "What, is it sweltering hot in Oregon or something? Because somebody out there has our weather. And I hope they keep it."

I'm also squealing with great mindless joy because I now have a copy of Jane Siberry's "No Borders Here" on CD. I had forgotten how fabulous this album was. (I had also forgotten how very ping-ping drum-machine eighties it was, but you get used to that.) I'll leave you with these words, from 'Symmetry':

Or say you're at the table and you've got your forks and knives.
Do you switch them around till you've got them just right?
... This is while you're talking to someone.

Oh, isn't that a wonderful album? I saw her in concert at Nightclub 9:30 a long long time ago. The best was when she was trying to do the sort of rap thing about the grouper in Extra Executives, and she totally cracked up laughing in the middle.

I'd love to have heard that. There's a little talk in the middle of the recorded version, too, but it's less of a rap than a mumble.

Just for the record, the weather in Oregon is not sweltering. It's actually rather chilly and rainy-like. Grrr.

No Borders Here is one of my favorite cds. Yes, it's very 80s, but that's part of its charm.

Gonna have to put it on when I get home in the morning...

(cold? in the summer, that's a *good* thing. It's a spiff 60 here in Columbus. :) )

I think we have your weather up here. And by here I mean Vancouver. Where it usually rains like, always, yet for some reason has been experiencing a drought of late. And a heat wave.

I think I want the bloody spring-like weather back. Grrr.

Hey, then, neighbor. I lived in Evanston for a while. Summer's nicer there, winter's much nicer here.

Oh, are you close by? I don't know of anyone closer than Chicago, and I haven't met the Chi crowd.

Oh--Iowa City. Not really close, Chicago would be closer to you I think, but it's farther for me...

It's nice now...at least in Galena it is. But yes, I was expecting warmer....

Galena's lovely; we've vacationed there a couple of times. (Did we pass you on the street? We'd have been the pasty confused-looking, bespectacled couple who didn't quite know how to carry on a conversation without a preschooler around to interrupt.)

Probably not - we vacation here, too, but we live in CA. We'd have been the couple that aren't both white, if you DID pass us... We got married last week out here, which is what we were doing out here this time!

Hey, congratulations! (Belated, but that's LJ's fault, not mine ...)

80s music

So true -- I'm always surprised whenever I listen to 80s music to find that if I haven't heard it in a few years, I've softened the hard edges in my memory. Relentless drums and backbeat, most of it, and I tend to remember the lyrics and forget just how bombastic most of it was.
