Birthday was kind of a dud, actually; evidently I need to do a better job of going around the month beforehand and saying to friends and family, "When my birthday comes, which is in exactly twenty-four days ..." because RL people did not remember the way LJ people did -- the in-laws, my brother, and my best friend all forgot it. There was an ice cream cake, which was lovely (and will be lovely again tonight), and the kidlet made me a bookmark with copious use of their current favorite tool, the hole punch, and my mother sent me some money, so, hey.

And the spouse and I did get to go out to dinner and to see the Hitchhiker's Guide. Arthur is cute as a button (that's not a spoiler, is it? anybody want me to cut-tag that?), and anyone who wanted to write any Ford/Arthur would have one guaranteed reader, at least.

Mostly this is an excuse to use my new cupcake icon. Hooray for cupcakes!

The art of the birthday poke is a tricky one. Does one poke early and often and risk annoying folk? Does one wait in saintly self-effacement and risk being passed by? When is the optimal time to post to LJ to ensure that one gets porn written for one? When is the optimal time to inform loved ones so that celebrations can be had and yet it is far too late to plan surprise parties and give one heart attacks? Should one request what one wants and run the risk of seeming greedy, or remain mum and risk godawful tchotckes? All things must be balanced well.

Oh, and since I was lame and missed it, Happy birthday!

Hee -- yes. I mentioned it to my friend today, in an oh-so-subtle way that I'm sure she saw right through -- and she said, "Oh, I remembered on Sunday, but then by Monday I had forgotten!" Er, thanks, that makes it so much better!

what i do is this: every month, on the 26th, i say to everyone i meet "Hey! Did you know it's my in excatly [X] months? I just mention it in case you're getting me a gift that requires financing."

we all laugh, but they can see that deep inside i really mean it. an nobody forgets. ^__^

bwa ha ha ha!

That's clever! May have to try that. (Of course, I'd have to compete with my father and my daughter, whose birthdays also fall on the eighth of various months), but hey.

Hee! I started giggling about the time the bar was throwing them nasty looks, and I began beaming about the time the towels intermingled, and now I too am happy, though not sticky.

I know the gettin-forgotten-in-RL all too well, which is why I make a point of reminding myself again and again of LJ friends b-days. And commenting to them, not just posting and thinking they'll see it :)

But spouse and kidlet sound good. Arthur is cute?! OMGWTF you spoiled me, now I cannot enjoy the film (he is on the cover of Sight+Sound, I wants it yet cannots affords it).

To my knowledge there are about 4 stories of Ford/Arthur slash.

*grrrr*
Douglas Adams deserves more than that. ...

The best one I stumbled across (read: searched really hard for) is
"More Things In Heaven And Earth" by Halrloprillalar.

Read here: http://prillalar.com/fic/stories/000104.php

Yeah, I remember liking some of it. I'm hoping there's a renaissance in the fandom (or that a fandom comes to exist) due to the movie.

I suppose I could *write* some, if I wanted to light a candle instead of grabbing random other people and pointing to the darkness.

Happy birthday from me, too! Um.. you probably don't know me, but I'm a huge fan of your stories. (Although I probably haven't ever sent feedback, because I'm terrible like that. Sorry. Will attempt to do so in the future.) I hope your birthday was somewhat enjoyable, anyway - I know how being forgotten by friends can take all the fun out of it.
