Pirates smut recs?

Finally saw Pirates of the Caribbean. Every bit as three-slashy as everyone has been saying. What I want to know now is:

1. What on earth kind of accent was Johnny Depp trying for?

2. Why oh why does all the Pirates fic seem to be PG-13?! Is everybody just still doing research on historically accurate lubricants, or what? Because, I mean, if you can't despoil a Disney movie, you're not fit to be a despoiler at all, say I.

1. I believe Depp's accent is "drunken drag queen." As in Roger Ebert's review, which made me giggle with laughter:

Depp in particular seems to be channeling a drunken drag queen, with his eyeliner and the way he minces ashore and slurs his dialogue ever so insouciantly. Don't mistake me: This is not a criticism, but admiration for his work. It can be said that his performance is original in its every atom. There has never been a pirate, or for that matter a human being, like this in any other movie.

2. Most of the Pirates fic I've seen is rated ARRRR! I think they do this on purpose.

Well... I've begun work on something that's (eventually) headed towards NC-17, I certainly hope! Unfortunately, at the rate this is going (a page & a half per two day.. *dies*) this could take a while.

...........I don't know if he meant his accent, or just the character... but it was a combo of Keith Richards, Pepe LePeu, and a Rastafarian, according to an interview with Depp.

Gods, I love this movie!

as a former Hornblower slasher, I can tell you that spit, tallow, lard, and various salves (probably also tallow or lard based) would have been used for lube in those days. The toffs might have had something lanolin-based.

Why oh why does all the Pirates fic seem to be PG-13?!

Really don't know, although I've been rather purposely avoiding most of it due to the one I'm writing. Which, of course, is just barely past 2,200 words at this point, because Jack is taking his damn *sweet* time in giving up the story.

But, well, Jack also fully intends to get naked and have a nice drunken fuck by the end, so I'm letting him swish along at his own pace.

Oh, dear God, not again. After the squirmingly bad Irish accent in Chocolat, and the painful Dick van Dyke School of Cockerney Acting effort in From Hell, I was already fearing the worst. I mean, I *know* his ordinary speaking voice is hypnotically boring, but why does he keep doing this? And more to the point, why do people keep *letting* him do it? This is another reason why no one except Tim Burton should be allowed to direct Johnny Depp in *anything*, ever.
