December Daily: flowers

Interesting question! Kind of random answer::
- My grandmother's favorite flower was the bearded iris. I find them unpleasantly frilly and fragile, like fainting Victorian ladies. Siberian irises are nicer
- I like tulips. Nice tailored flower, unassuming and cheerful.
- My mother is very proud of having a flower in her garden that blooms in February. (This is in North Carolina, not Iowa, but still.) It's called a Lenten rose, and it doesn't look like much to me, but a flower in February is nothing to sneeze at.
- The day I met my best friend, back in 1991, I was wearing a T-shirt dress with a floral pattern. She complimented it. I told her where I'd bought it. "Oh, I don't want it for me," she said. "I like flowers, but not on me."
- Once I read a book about wildflowers, and the introduction mentioned that there's a type of flower that some wildflower experts refer to as a DYC, which stands for Damned Yellow Composite. I can hear the rumblings of distant controversies, arguments, and powerful feelings that I know nothing about. This is what people outside the fanfic community feel when they hear us say "Mary Sue."
