I've been confident for some time that Pastor Vague is a space alien, attempting unsuccessfully to use observation to fit in among humans*. Today I discovered evidence that his date of earthfall was sometime in the 1990s or later.

He's working on a book about a clergywoman he admires, and occasionally (because he's too vague to use Amazon successfully) he'll ask me to order a book for him. Today he said, "The title is 'Right Wing Women,' and the author is D-W-O-R-K --"

"Oh, Andrea Dworkin?" I said.

He frowned, perplexed. "You've heard of her? What is she, an important historian or something?"

Somehow I have a feeling the book he's writing is not going to be a very good book.

(A couple of months ago he asked me if I'd ever heard of an author named (phonetically) P.G. Woad-house, who was pretty good.)

* You may not be surprised to learn that this sort of thing is much less sexy when it comes from people not played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

We're going to Disney World on Sunday! The spouse's parents are sending us there for the kidlet's 12th birthday. "I don't know what we've done to deserve a gift like that," I told my mother-in-law, and she said, "Well, you're pretty good kids."

So you may not hear from me until I'm completely exhausted. Possibly even sunburned. Have a good time while I'm gone, and keep fandom warm for me!

Oh dear. I had lunch with a favorite colleague today, and we touched in passing on our commonly held suspicion that the church shelters a particular sort of damaged or incompetent person in ministry.

We also shared books. Not Dworkin, or Wodehouse, but Amitrav Ghosh and Sarah Dunant.

Hope you have a lovely time in Disney World!

Heh. My dad is a huge Wodehouse fan and when I was growing up we always said it Woad-house. Because it was southern California in the 80s and how the fuck would we know, nobody else in all Los Angeles liked it?

This has been a source of perpetual disappointment to me throughout my life.

I was considering it from the other perspective: were it not for my lack of Cumberbatchness, my tendency to come across as a space alien IRL would surely make me a sex god.

But alas, my Cumberbatch rating is zero.

Ha - I wrote that 'alien trying to pass' fic for Yuletide recently (Fraser as alien, due South). I suspect it's a lot more disconcerting and a lot less funny being around them in real life! Have fun in Disney World.

Hee. I don't find him particularly sexy either, but your point stands, oh so much.

No, that does not sound particularly sexy.

Uh oh. Now I have to go google "Wodehouse."

Have a great time at Disney World! If you get there at or before opening there is a small window when the rides are line-free, although a Sunday in January doesn't seem like it should be that busy in the first place.
