Our stuff

Today the spouse arrived, so we're done with the long-distance marriage. At least for the moment; he graduates from seminary two years before the kidlet graduates from high school, so we'll have to figure something out then.

It is very lovely to be sitting on a couch instead of in a folding chair at a folding table. But moving is such a very huge pain in the neck that we're now looking at our stuff and thinking, "Do we really need a couch? Aren't there ways to sit comfortably without being saddled with a giant heavy object that one person can't carry?"

Is there any modular soft-seating option that's as comfy as a couch but breaks down into things that are a more reasonable size? For that matter, what about dining tables? Because we're definitely looking at more moves coming up, and it would be great to start getting rid of stuff now.

I have seven of these folding tables to set up my dining room any way I want at a moment's notice (or leave it open) - http://m.target.com/p/cosco-wood-folding-table-espresso/-/A-12215788 - they do chip a little around the edges of the veneer (but I'd read about that in the reviews before buying). But you can lean on the solidly, they look pretty, and I can fit 4 in my backseat.

Moving is easier once you have community. Moving out is much easier than moving in. Get to know the people across the highway, they are happy to move heavy things for food and a few jokes.

I have a three-piece sectional couch that's light enough that I can easily carry each of the three pieces alone. Maybe you should look into something like that?

Not a couch, but people in this house are very fond of their Poang chairs. We don't much use the couch; the cats do, though.

With the footstool, yes, and with a little age, very much so. Keep that in mind if you go to the store and test out floor models: they've been very well broken in. The new frames are stiffer.

Years ago we bought our couch from Ikea, which is really just two chaise lounges put together to form a couch. It comes fully apart - even the arm rests separate from the base. Don't know if you have an Ikea close to you, but something like that would work. We've moved it three times and it almost even fits in my Civic (gotta tie the trunk down because the pieces are *just* too long to fit all the way).

I dunno, but congrats on being (at least temporarily) done with long distance!
