A lot of my fannish interaction on a daily basis takes place via Discord, which is like the olden IRC chats but FANCY (and retains infinite backscroll so you can go find where you plotted out that one entire AU over the course of 8 hours). Are you feeling fannish about anything in particular?
Eh -- not really. Historically, I tended to get fannish about things that people in fandom were being fannish about around me, which is my difficulty here. I'm reading all the old stuff plus Witcher. I have story ideas around Natasha Pulley's Watchmaker of Filigree Street/Lost Future of Pepperharrow novels, which have a fandom that could fit in a midsize Denny's and literally 70 stories on AO3, so I'm not absorbing a lot of fannish energy there.
Dreamwidth had something of a renaissance about a year ago (Tumblr was being a *particular* butt), so many of us are trying to post actively here again.
Fandoms I have been in over the past year:
Guardian, a Chinese webdrama. Good Omens (currently rules my brain). Re-watching Highlander on Zoom with some of the old gang & some new.
MANY people have fallen hard for The Untamed, another Chinese webdrama (see goss's icon above).
A lot of people are on Discord or Slacks, but not all. What are you interested in these days?
I left tumblr and twitter at the same time because of purity purges. (I had never been very active on either of them.)
I used to love to read Good Omens fic. Then I watched the series (which I also loved) and for some reason something happened in my head and now I don't enjoy the fic any more. :(
I need to find a fandom that two to three people I like are enthusiastic about and follow them into it. Historically that's how I get fannish about something. Otherwise I just, like, watch the show or read the book or listen to the podcast, but some sort of smut catalyst is missing.
I finally caved and made a Tumblr so I can participate in Les Mis fandom, since that's where it is now. It is really weird to be getting my feet wet in a new fandom again, but it's good weird.
Did something new happen in Les Mis fandom, or has it just stayed alive through hard work from the fans? (Did I ever tell you that I did use your story as an example for that person who wrote me asking about how to do different things with different sex scenes? She never wrote back, but I had a very good time repeatedly reading the story, and I think it's a tribute to your writing that I found it very moving despite not having a clue who any of those guys were.)
I think, much like growing up, it's just something that happens to you more than something that you do. I did it a couple of years ago and look! Here you are now! Right on time.
Seconding fandomcalendar as a great resource to see what's going on in fandom. Multifandom exchanges hosted on DW/AO3 have become a particularly active thing over the last several years, and I really enjoy that scene. Lots of opportunities to participate even if you're not deeply into one particular fandom. multifandomdrabble is just about to get underway, and could be a good low-commitment way to step back in.
Still here, still mostly lurking, still getting older (will be 45 this year which means I’ve been reading fic for ~25 years!). You don’t know me but I always get super excited when you post something.
It’s funny you should show up today, because this morning I was like, you know what I need, I need to reread Transfigurations again!
I feel like I know you. I picture you as your default icon.
I'm 56 this year, which seems impossible, but I was a little later to arrive in fandom than you were. Still, it's a damned long time since I first read a Next Generation story in 1998.
It's so hard to get back into the swing things. I find my weekly update stops me from getting blocked about posting, helps keep the channel open in a way, but I do have the advantage of an active Dreamwidth fandom too, atm.
Seconding the suggestion of a meme of some kind. (There was a 30-day fic reccing meme a while ago that I could dig out if you like?) ♥
I have a sort of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie situation with icons: I no longer have a graphics program, and getting one (even some freebie Pshop knockoff) would require me to deal with the fact that my laptop is running out of storage space, which is usually a sign that you've kept a laptop for too long, which has implications for my phone and my step tracker, and and and ...
