If y'all were wondering, my Frances-inspired Christmas dinner turned out lovely. I had ham with maple syrup and seedy mustard, and potato gratin with thyme, and [personal profile] panisdead's Moroccan-spiced butternut squash, and a homemade roll, and a few raw sugar snap peas, and a navel orange, and I did my best to make them come out even. The pecan pie I bought from Imperfect Foods turned out to be a bust, but I didn't really have any appetite left for it anyway.

I'm feeling kind of done with Christmas, though. Most years I'm a bit of a crank about the dates -- I want the tree up on St. Nicholas Day (December 6) and down on Epiphany (January 6) -- but this year I started early due to all the ... everything.

I've got one more vacation day tomorrow, so I've designated that to be this year's Last Day of Christmas. I'm going to play the music one more time, make some molasses cookies, take down the tree and the kidlet's nativity set, put away the wrapping paper, and get on with Clean The Insides of Things January.

I talked about Fraser and Ray a while back, so let's talk about Vecchio and Stella.

To be honest, I seriously doubt that a full-pay police pension still exists in 2020, golden bullet or no golden bullet. It doesn't matter very much, though, because in my head that bowling alley he and Stella open is incredibly successful.

It's so successful that it's constantly being investigated for arms smuggling, money laundering, etc., because nobody can believe that a former detective (though admittedly very funny and well dressed) and a former prosecutor (though admittedly very smart and pretty) could possibly be doing this well with a bowling alley that's actually nothing but a bowling alley.

When they open a new, expanded bowling alley with restaurant and dance hall, Stella has to talk Ray out of naming it The Front Organization.

A ds fan who has since moved on told me about their idea for a story that opened with a head showing up in the ball wash at the bowling alley...

Also, fics featuring Stella were somewhat popular to write around the time I joined fandom, and I'm sad that that fashion has mostly died out lately. (At least in the very small corner of fandom where I remain, having given up on trying to follow fandom to Tumblr or wherever else.) I recently podficced a S/K/V fic for the Big Bang and it made me nostalgic for those days...

It makes me smile to think of Ray and Stella doing well in 2020 with their wildly successful bowling alley.
