resonantI dreamed the dwarves from the Lord of the Rings movies met up with a team of mining dwarves who were working with a small, young dragon. They couldn't really communicate with him except on the level you could with a pet - like a noise that means "I need help," one that means "I want something," one that means "you're my buddy, yes you are." But Thorin had an immediate telepathic connection with him. And this dragon was ASTONISHED to learn that dwarves were sapient and it was possible to communicate with them.

Dragon: Okay, they can talk and they can FIND GOLD from up to half a mile away!!1! This is worth getting over the horror for.
