2. I only ever had Haagen Dazs Honey Vanilla once, and I can't find any evidence that it ever really existed, but boy, was it good.

1. In 1984 a Swenson's opened in my hometown, and they had a thing like fudge ripple but with caramel. Quite a lot of caramel. Probably not the pure ambrosia that I'm remembering, but boy was it good.

I come from the south, where pecan is pronounced PEE-can, except in the name of the ice cream -- there, it's pronounced p'CAHN like in the rest of the English-speaking world.

That is hilarious and I had no idea! My (Appalachian) paternal grandmother always called them PEE-cans (she also warshed the dishes and only liked feesh when it was batter-fried), but I don't remember her ever referring to the ice cream. She made an incredible PEE-can pie, btw. That woman's pies were legendary.

I have to be careful how much dairy I eat, and at one point last summer the kidlet found me something salty-nutty made with cashew milk, and it was amazing.

Could be -- that page says it's retired.

The Van Leeuwen's link says that ice cream is $12, and does not tell you how big the container is! I guess if I have to ask, I can't afford it.

Couldn't be that hard to make a vanilla ice cream or frozen custard with a strong honey flavor. Maybe next summer I'll tackle that.

your #3 is my #1. Cherry Garcia is my all-time favorite ice cream. I'm not much for ice cream in general but I love that one.

I have some of those flavors that I only remember, and they were so good. I'm kind of glad I can't get it again because it may not be as good.

Oh, it's terrible when something you remember fondly disappoints you. As I get older, I don't enjoy things that are super-sweet with no counterbalance of bitter or salty or tart -- I used to love fudge, but now I can't enjoy it at all.

I only love fudge when it has walnuts in it to break up the sugar.

I also have an elusive Haagen Dazs flavour. For about 2 years they had a line of 5 ingredient ice creams, and their ginger was divine.
